DynaVoxCare and Handling of The DynaVox The DynaVox is easy to clean With the unit turned off (shut down), simply wipe it gently with a damp cloth or soft paper towel. You might want to dampen the towel with mild window cleaner to remove finger prints, food particles, and dust. Do not use tape or stickers on either the screen or the case. They are difficult to remove and may damage the surface. Tape, stickers, and other tacky materials could damage the touch panel and interfere with the operation of the device. Avoid getting your DynaVox wet. Never submerge it in water (e.g., dish water). If the unit accidentally gets we, be sure to shut it down and allow it to dry thoroughly. If, after 24 hours, you find that it seems to function normally, it's probably okay. If it fails to function or behaves abnormally, contact your assistive technology case manager. Be careful not to drop the unlit. Its case is made of rubberized, high-impact plastic and can take some fairly rough handling. Such treatment is not recommended and may shorten the life of the device, so avoid dropping or throwing the unit. Do not use a sharp object to make selections on the touch panel. Doing so could damage it. If you need to use a pointer to make selections, be sure it has a cushioned tip. Battery Operation and Maintenance The DynaVox device has two nickel metal hydrice (NiMH) battery packs. You can continuously run a fullly charge device for approximately 10 hours. Tip: Running the device with a screen brightness setting below full will extend daily battery life. Whenever you are near an electrical outlet, kyou can use the DynaVox while it is plugged in. To use the DC adapter/charger: Insert the plug into an electrical outlet. Shut down the device. Insert the circular connector into the charger jack on the right edge of the device. Turn the DynaVox on. The Backlight Time Feature You can save power and extend daily battery life by allowing the device to "go to sleep". This puts the device ito a low power mode and dims the screen. The Backlight Time seting on the Screen Controls menu lets you set a period of time after which the DynaVox screen will dim if lyou haven't made a selection. Charging the DynaVox Battery Whenever yo plug in the DC adapter, the battery is being recharged. With the DynaVox device off, it takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge the battery. You cannot overcharge the battery so don't be concerned about leaving the unit plugged in overnight. Unlike some other types of batteries, you can actually extend the life of this battery by letting it run down completely and then recharging it fully. We recommed you do this at least once a week to maximize battery life. To fully discharge and recharge the battery: Turn on the device. Do not have the DC adapter/charger plugged into the device. Use the deivce as you would normally. Look for the LED to show a flashing green signal. This means the battery is low. Approximately 15 to 30 minutes later, the device will reach a very low battery level and turn itself off. Before you turn the device on again, you will want to fully charge the battery. Connect the DC adapter/charger to an electrical outlet and then to the charger jack of the device. After a moment, the LED will show a solid red signal. The LED will remain in this state until the battery is fully charged, and then the red LED will go out. Remember, to fully charge a battery takes about 4 hours.
