Muff-N-Tin
Crayons™ are an adaptation of regular crayons that any student
will enjoy using. For students who have physical limitations or cognitive
disabilities these crayons will allow students to easily grasp and use
without simply breaking them. Muff-N-Tin Crayons™ will last much
longer in your classroom.
If you would prefer
to purchase Muff-N-Tin Crayons™ please go to Adaptive Tools to
Buy.
This is an example
of Muff-N-Tin Crayons™ colored on white paper. Because these crayons
are flat on
both sides, they will not roll off the work surface.
You may use any crayon
to make them: new from the package or old broken ones you’ve collected
and saved or specialty crayons that have glitter.

| STEP
ONE: Remove all paper
wrappers. |
STEP
TWO: Preheat your oven to
275ºF. |
| |
|
STEP THREE:
Use aluminum muffin
tins. Place the muffin tins into
an
aluminum tray.
|
STEP
FOUR: Break into smaller pieces.
Place the crayons into the muffin tins. |
|
|
STEP FIVE:
Arrange into special
color groups if you want. I use at
least 8 – 10 whole crayons.
|
STEP SIX:
Turn off your oven. Oven
should be at 275ºF. Wax is
flammable.This is for safety.
|
|
|
| STEP
SEVEN: Place aluminum tray
into oven. Turn on your exhaust fan.
You may want to open a window. |
STEP
EIGHT: Set your timer for about
20 minutes. You may want to check
your crayons at 15 minutes.
|
|
|
| STEP
NINE: When the crayons
appear to be somewhat melted
together but still in a color chunk
form, open the oven door and
allow your oven to completely cool.
Do not move the crayons yet or the
colors may blend together. Leave
your crayons in the oven until the
wax is in a solid form. |
STEP TEN:
After the crayons have
cooled you may remove them from the
muffin
tins. Allow them to come to
room temperature before you use them.
You may save the aluminum tins and
reuse. For ideas on how to use
