Makes A Rainbow?

Objectives:
In the context of the activity, the student will demonstrate
the ability to use his/her communication device by locating 4 colors
in a rainbow.
In the context of the activity, the student will identify 4 objects/animals
the color of the colors in the rainbow.
In the context of the activity, the student will name one thing needed
for a rainbow. Materials:
Book: What
Makes a Rainbow by Betty Ann Schwartz, Illustrated by Dona
Turner
Materials
sugar cookies
frosting
food coloring
1 set of scented cloth squares the colors of the rainbow
1 set of textured cloth squares the colors of the rainbow
Activities
Have the students
locate the rainbow on their device and discuss the activity menu that
appears when they choose the icon.
As your reading
the book ask students to name the color on the page you're reading and
predict the next color in the rainbow.
When you have completed
reading the book ask some/all of the following questions.
- "What colors
are in a rainbow?"
- "Can you
think of something that is _(name a color)________?".
- "What things
are needed to make a rainbow?"
- "What color
was the __(name an animal)__________?
4. Let the students
decorate the cookies with rainbows using frosting, candies, etc.
5. Put different
smells on small cloth swatches (the colors in the rainbow). Have the
students identify and/or describe the smells by "color". (The
red one smells sweet).
6. Using textured
materials (the colors of the rainbow) have the students identify and/or
describe by "color".
