Plano ISD, in partnership with Palm Computing,
announces the selected project for the
Palm Education Pioneer Grant program

Thank you to all of the campuses who participated in the Plano ISD - Palm Education Pioneer Grant program. We had the opportunity to review many innovative and well-designed projects to explore the possibilities of handheld computers in our instructional settings. Proposals were received from campuses in each cluster and at each level which allowed us to view ideas for many different groups of students and content areas. We wish that all of these wonderful ideas could have been funded for further study.

I'm pleased to announce that the Plano ISD technology steering committee has completed their evaluation of the Plano ISD - Palm Education Pioneer Grant proposals. Frankford Middle School and their proposal titled "We Have the Whole World in the PALM of Our Hand" received the highest ranking and has been forwarded to Palm Computing to compete in their national program.

In addition to the national entry, the technology steering committee has recommended that we fund three additional projects through erate discount funds. The three projects that have been recommended for this alternate local program include: "The Ultimate Management Tool" proposed by Plano Senior High School; "Processing in the Palm of Your Hand" proposed by Barron Elementary School; and "Handhelds for Small Hands" proposed by Rose Haggar Elementary School.

Again, congratulations to these campuses on being selected to participate in this process! Progress reports on each of the grant projects will be posted at this site as they become available.

The grant application process and information can still be reviewed online here.
