Helen Greer has worked in Plano I.S.D. for 15 years with more than 20 years total teaching experience as of 2005. Beginning her career in Carrollton-Farmers Branch I. S. D., she has taught grades one, four, five, and six. Prior to becoming Literacy Specialist in 2005, she has been a fifth grade team leader, math vertical team leader, camp director, and gifted specialist. Helen received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Texas with a minor in reading.

Program Overview

The Literacy Specialist's role:

• Assist with the implementation of the reading/language arts program

• Provide instruction in reading/language arts in collaboration with the classroom teacher to students identified with
academic needs

• Model lessons in reading/language arts and initiate conferences with teachers about effective
strategies for classroom instruction

• Support and develop instrutional goals

• Facilitate implementation of new materials, methodologies, philosophies, and innovations using those that meet
the needs of students served

• Facilitate and implement the dyslexia program
