College Planning Class - Financial Aid
Families - On Tuesday January 13th there will be an Informative Financial Aid Night brought to you by the PSHS PTSA and Counseling Department. The presentation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM in the Lecture Hall which is located in Bldg B. There will be a question and answer session at the end.

Some of our junior students have received a handout about “College Planning Class” that will be held on our campus. If you get an invitation to attend a “College Planning” workshop on January 13, please be advised that the meeting in NOT sponsored by Plano Senior HS or PISD. It has been organized by a private company that has reserved Plano Senior HS facilities.

PLANO I.S.D. SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL EXEMPTION POLICY
A senior may qualify for exemption from final exams during the second semester if he/she meets the following criteria:

  1. A minimum grade of 85 overall 2nd semester average (per class), and 85 for the 3rd six weeks must be maintained (per class)
  2. The student shall have no unexcused absences and have no more than three (3) excused absences in each class during the second semester (per class). 
  3. The student shall have no more than 5 tardies in each class.
  4. No major infractions.  Major infractions typically result in In School Suspension, Saturday School, Out of School Suspension, Friday Night School, or placement at the Special Programs Center.  The building principal will determine whether an offense will be classified as “major”.
  5. The student must have no outstanding fines, fees, or debts for school property or services (summer school, night school, etc.)
  6. The student must report to class for attendance accounting and check out requirements at the start of the first period each exam day to be exempt from taking any exam.  Failure to report to the first period class each exam day will result in a zero as the grade for the examination. If the student has a pass for an excused absence, he/she will be allowed to take the make-up examination on the scheduled date.

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT

PSAT SCORES
Juniors: PSAT scores are ready to be picked up in the counseling office. Please bring a picture ID. We are available before school, during your lunch period and after school.

OFF-CAMPUS PE
The deadline for Off-Campus PE applications for second semester is Tuesday, January 20, 2009.  Please remember your students may access the OCPE application online at http://www.pisd.edu/students/athletics/off.campus.pe.shtml

STUDENT PARKING PERMIT
A Student Parking Permit is now $40 for the remainder of this school year.  Correct change or checks accepted in Delta subschool, completed and parent-signed card required.  
Remember -Do not park in numbered parking, handicap, visitors or fire lanes. Towing will be enforced this semester.

WRESTLING - SENIOR NIGHT
The Plano Wrestling team is hosting a dual meet on Wednesday January 7 against the Rockwall Yellow Jackets. Plano Wrestling's Senior Class will be honored along with their parents. The match starts at 6PM.

FROM THE PSHS PTSA
The PTSA is offering at-home copies of the English department's assigned reading books for spring 2009. The books may be purchased in the PSHS library at the checkout desk, payable with cash or checks made out to PSHS PTSA. The PTSA will be hosting a Spirit Night at Steak & Shake at Coit and George Bush on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 6-10 p.m. Bring your friends, dine in and a percentage of the profits that evening will benefit the students of PSHS through PTSA programs like Plano After Prom! PRACTICE PSAT, SAT AND ACT
The PTSA will be hosting practice PSAT, SAT and ACT testing sponsored by The Princeton Review on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at PSHS. The registration form may be requested by emailing pshs_ptsa@yahoo.com. This testing is available for students in middle school through senior high.

REFLECTIONS
PSHS had 11 entries that went up to the Council level.
2 received the Award of Excellence and have moved on to the State.
1 is in the Music entry and the other is a Visual Arts entry.
2 Others received Honorable mention. 1 is a Visual Arts entry and the other is a Literature entry.
