Language Arts
Primary Focal Points - TEKS

  • Demonstrates competence in general writing skills, strategies of writing process and rhetorical aspects of writing.
  • Writes with a command of grammatical and mechanical conventions.
  • Effectively gathers and uses information for research purposes.
  • Demonstrates competence in general reading skills and strategies of the reading process.

  • Demonstrates competence in applying reading processes in specific types of literary texts, informational texts, and those of a technical nature.

  • Demonstrates competence in speaking and listening as tools for learning.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the nature/function of the English language

  • Demonstrates a familiarity with selected literacy works of enduring qualities.

    Integrated Curriculum

    Science and Social Studies concepts are taught through the integrated curriculum. Math, reading, and writing skills are also applied with the integrated curriculum.

  • 1st - Ins ands Outs of Communication
    Involves student in communication from a geographic and scientific perspective.
  • 2nd - How Parts Interact to Make a Whole:
  • Deals with the relation of parts to a whole as it relates to building a nation, factors in the environment and different cultures.

  • 3rd - In Sync With Systems:
  • Deals with investigative, man-made, and natural systems.

  • 4th - It's A Balancing Act:
  • Explores the balance and stability of body systems and historical periods.

  • 5th - How Variables Cause Change:
  • Focuses on variables and how they cause change.

  • 6th - Strength in Diversity:
  • Increases students' awareness of the diversity of the world and environment.

     
     

    Math Program
    Primary Focal Points - TEKS

    Compare/contrast lengths, areas, volume of geometric shapes/solids.
    Represent/interpet data in graphs, tables, and charts.
    Apply whole number operations in a variety of ways.

    Students will build a foundation of basic understanding in:

  • Number, operations, and quantitative reasoning

  • Patterns, relationships, algebraic thinking

  • Measurement

  • Probability
