The Art Program at Aldridge
Elementary has four sessions a month. It is an excellent oppertunity
for the students to express themselves visually, to learn a variety
of art skills and vocabulary, and to build confidence in an inventive
atmosphere.
The students work with a variety
of different materials such as paper, paint, chalks, clay, ink, papier
mache, and pencils to create two dimensional and three dimensional art.
The children will learn not only how to produce art, but will learn
about the aesthetics, art history, and how to critique artwork from
famous artists as well as their own.
The focus of the art lesson
derives from artistic techniques and styles, the art elements and
art principles, different cultural art, and topics discussed in class.
The TAKS & TEKS are also taught during each lesson. The main goal
is for children to experience a wide variety of different things associated
with art and to have a well rounded understanding of the art world.
This year the children view
many famous works from artists such as Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van
Gogh, Leonardo DaVinci, Georgia O'Keefe, Thomas Cole, Henri Matisse,
Roy Litchenstein, Piet Mondrian, and many more. We make exciting
projects such as masks, landscape paintings, collages, linear perspective
drawings, architectural drawings, clay sculptures, and drawings of
animals.
