PTA President's Notes

PTA NEWS

Wow, it is hard to believe that the first nine weeks of school is behind us! It has been great seeing so many volunteers at school helping in the classrooms, workroom, office and many times at home cutting and pasting. What would we do without so many wonderful volunteers!

I wanted to share with you all the things the PTA has been up to. Our Kathryn Beich fundraiser was a huge success thanks to your generosity! We sold almost $11,000 this year and Boggess will receive 50% of all proceeds! A big thank you goes out to Shelly Fuller and Pattie Stuewe for all of their hard work! The PTA will have our 1st Annual Silent Auction on March 1st along with the Open House and Dinner. If you would like to be on the committee and/or donate items, please contact Teri Larson at Larsontmark@msn.com or 972-422-2487. She would love to hear from you!

The 2nd Annual Grandparents or Special Person’s Day and Reception was a HUGE success! Our Hospitality Chairman, Trina Tisdell and Patti Stuewe and all of their wonderful volunteers served a delicious reception in the cafeteria to a standing room only crowd! Thanks to all of you who donated food and beverage items!

The PTA has also presented two exceptional youth programs. On September 21st our children got to “Experience the Awareness.” This program was started by a mom from another PISD elementary school. It allowed your children to experience a wide variety of abilities and disabilities people face each day in our society. There were 10 different stations set up for each child to expose them to adaptations and accommodations, but more importantly to teach them compassion, understanding, empathy, and kindness. Our second program was called “Code of Honor” held on October 18th. This dynamic 3-screen presentation was presented by Motivational Productions. It taught our children the importance of Caring, Obedience and Honesty to others. Be sure and ask your children what they thought! Thanks to Pam Seeger for finding and bringing these two incredible youth education programs to our school and children.

The Family Picnic and Art Night by “The Classics” was held on October 10th. Due to rain the picnic was held in the gymnasium. That didn’t stop the children from having a great time running around and playing with classmates! We had a crowd of around 250 parents and children who participated in “All Around the World” with 7 creative art stations. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make the night a success, Mrs. Ford and Amy Ishmael who coordinated the evenings program. Thanks Amy Deans for the yummy popcorn!

Red Ribbon week was October 23rd-27th. The PTA coordinated with our awesome counselors Debbie Dantzler and Sherry Stevenson on the week’s activities. The chain link fence was decorated with red cups, each child received buttons to wear all week, drawings were held each day for prizes and posters were displayed in the hallways. The students enjoyed the different clothing theme for the three days too. Thanks Nina Tucker for coordinating this with the school.

Its official, our “Mission Possible” goal for Boggess Membership was made again this year with over 620 current members!!! THANK YOU so much! We had 100% of teachers and staff join as well as over 60 community leaders! Our V.P. of Membership, Shelly Bottlinger went above and beyond her call of duty. Thanks Shelly for an outstanding job and winning all those awards! Lynda Bruffett completed this year’s directory and all I can say is “Wow”! It looks great and I really appreciate her time and talents it took into completing this!

Another big “thank you” to Barbara Baselice for the incredible work she did with “Friends of Boggess.” This is a huge project and she really got out in the community and got so many local businesses to join this year.

Thanks for your continued support with family fun nights at Amado’s, Double Dave’s, McDonald’s and Hungry Howie’s! Please continue to support these efforts each month.
Upcoming PTA events are the following: Science Adventures after school programs, Veteran’s Day Reception, Teacher/Staff Holiday Luncheon and Donuts for Dad!

Thanks for supporting Boggess PTA!
