Seventh graders at Bowman are placed on one of three academic teams:

Stars, Trek 13

Each team is comprised of about 110 students and five teachers: one each for social studies, math, and science, reading, and language arts. The students enjoy interactive lessons, field trips and special team activities planned by their teachers.

TIPS FOR PARENTS

1.  Make sure your child has all the supplies needed for classes:

2 blue or black ink pens
2 pencils
1 red pen
notebook paper
highlighters
map colors or markers

2.  These supplies should be replenished often during the year.

3.  Look for your child's library card in his pencil bag.

4.  Check your child's agenda every day. Ask to see completed or graded assignments and tests.

5.  Check to see that your child's notebook is organized:

dividers in the correct class order,
no loose papers, no spirals or folders,
all papers in the proper section.
6.  Teachers will routinely have students clean out individual sections of their binders at the end of a six weeks or at the completion of a unit.

7.  Set aside a time and place for your child to study every night.

8.  Supervise studying and limit television, video, computer, and telephone time on school nights.

9.  Encourage your child to attend tutorials when he/she...

has missed a day of school.
needs to make up a quiz or test.
is having difficulty understanding subject matter or concepts.
when he/she has been assigned mandatory tutorials due to a failing grade on most recent report card.

10.  Help your child manage study time wisely, especially when a project or long-term assignment has been given.

11.  Encourage your child to study for tests.

12.  Review materials with them by asking pertinent questions about subject matter.

13.  Look for progress reports the fourth week of the six weeks and report cards the Friday after the six weeks ends.  Report cards are mailed home at the end of each semester.
