Bowman Band
Performing Bands
Students often choose to continue building their musical skills and talents in the seventh
and eighth grade. They become a member of a performing band and assume a greater responsibility
to themselves and to each other. Our students continue to develop their individual musicianship
while simultaneously honing their ensemble skills.
Organizations
Symphonic Band and Concert Band
- Open by audition only, by director's consent.
- Members generally consist of 7th-8th graders.
- Rehearses every day.
- One weekly 45 minute section rehearsal require (before school, after school, or during class).
- Occasional full band rehearsals may be required (before or after school).
- Performs at school functions, local concerts, and festivals.
- Members participate in self-improvement activities (such as All-City Band auditions and PISD Solo/Ensemble Contest).
- Members must turn in practice reports on a consistent basis.
WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY BAND STUDENT IS IMPORTANT at Bowman Middle School!
Placement in a group by one's ability is for the student's benefit so that he/she may learn
and progress at a rate that is appropriate and rewarding for the student.
Students in the performing bands have several major performances throughout the year,
including football games,a Fall Concert, a Winter Concert, a Pre-Contest Performance,
a Plano Evaluation Concert and Sight Reading Contest, and a Spring Concert.
Opportunities to develop individually include the Plano All-City Band Auditions and the Solo and Ensemble Contest.
