ATTENTION ALL FAMILIES OF DIVERSE LEARNERS:
Special and Gifted Education
Committee of the Plano ISD Council of PTAs

Kids and the World

The Plano Council of PTAs has established the SAGE committee to provide an opportunity for families of students who learn differently to share resources and friendship. If you or someone you know love a child who participates in Special Education, the Gifted and Talented programs, or simply struggles with Learning Differences, here is your chance to come together with others for the benefit of all.

Join your local PTA and ask about the SAGE committee,
or visit our website at http://www.planopta.org/sage.htm
or e-mail us at sage@planopta.org

SAGE activities have been well received during our first year.
Some of our accomplishments during the 2004-2005 school year include:

* Establishment or reconstitution of three parent support groups
* Three programs on topics requested by PISD parents
* Partnership with a community group to bring in a professional workshop
* Establishment of SAGE chairs in several local PTA units
* Opportunities for families to meet with school administrators informally

The attached form is our SAGE Voluntary Information Release form for 2007-2008.
This form is not required to participate in SAGE activities.

Completion of this SAGE Voluntary Information Release Form is necessary only for those wishing to be a SAGE Family. A SAGE Family is one that has joined the local PTA and submitted the SAGE Voluntary Information Release form, thus giving SAGE their name and e-mail address to be contacted directly by the SAGE committee.
(Return completed form to: Your Local Campus PTA SAGE Chairman or
the Plano Council of PTAs SAGE Chairman)

Name and e-mail address are the only information necessary to become a SAGE Family.

Any information volunteered on a completed form is used solely for the purposes of providing services to SAGE families. When specific information is provided, the SAGE committee can share contact information with other SAGE families based on geographic area, age, interests, school campus, as well as identify parent interests and willingness to serve. Additionally, information has been used to help families network with others to create support groups relating to their child's specific needs.

The SAGE committee of the Plano ISD Council of PTAs works in association with
Judy Haven, PISD Director of Special Education and
Mark Wellborn, PISD Coordinator of PACE/Gifted programs.

We are currently seeking Local SAGE Chairpersons for local PISD campuses.
