RDSPD is a state funded program available to Collin County students with hearing impairments. Davis Elementary is home to the elementary level program. There are two programs housed at Davis, both the total communication program that uses SEE (Signing Exact English), and also an aural/oral program. All referrals to the RDSPD are made through the child's home school.

Parent Education Program

Infants and toddlers who are identified as hearing impaired may receive services through a homebred, parent education program. A certified teacher of the deaf with specialized training in the SKI*HI (Sensory Integration Training for the Hearing Impaired) curriculum, works with the parents and the child in developmental areas such as language arts, communication, audition, cognition, and gross/fine motor skills.

Elementary Program

A continuum of services is available for students with hearing impairment who need centralized programming at the elementary level. Depending upon educational need, the IEP committee may place the child in a self-contained classroom for hearing impaired students or in a full-time mainstreaming situation or any combination of these instructional options. A full range of related services is available to support the student in the placement prescribed. Depending upon educational services needed, every effort is made to include students in the mainstream and to return them to their home school campuses.

If you suspect your child has a hearing loss, please ask your child's doctor to recommend you to an ear specialist.
