Dana
Hammond, special education team leader at Hughston, was recognized
as radio station 97.5 KLAK’s September Teacher of the
Month.
Ms.
Hammond has been previously honored with a PTA Life Membership
as well as chosen 2000-2001 Hughston Teacher of the Year.
She is an active member of her church and is involved in many
civic and educational endeavors outside of the school day.
When asked about her success in working with special needs
students, she responded, “The key to successful teaching
is developing positive relationships with students, taking
small set-backs in stride, and making instruction fun and
appropriate. These three ingredients can assure that learning
will happen.” With a philosophy like this, Ms. Hammond
is able to meet each day with a smile – a quality every
school room needs.
