Youth Mentor Network of Plano Support for Youth

Youth Mentor Network of Plano is a new non-profit organization. We are people who are dedicated to providing the youth of our community with the support of caring, trustworthy adults. Students in need of one-on-one attention from  an adult are identified by staff members and referred to Youth Mentor Network. Children at Hughston Elementary (5th Grade only), Haggard Middle School, Vines High School, and Plano Senior High School are being offered the opportunity to have the additional support of another caring adult in their lives. 

The adult volunteers will check-in with the child once a week by telephone at their home during after school hours. The volunteer will also come up to the school campus once a month during the child’s lunch period and will bring a meal to share (burgers or pizza) with them. The volunteer will be a fresh face in the child’s life and will be supportive of their successes and provide encouragement during the down times at school. 

Their purpose will be to positively and directly impact the child’s life by providing guidance and support. They will not be involved in the family’s life, their focus and primary interest is the child’s well being. These volunteers live and work in our community and willingly give of their time. They go through the same criminal background checks all P.I.S.D. volunteers do. We will not assign a volunteer for any child unless we have a parent’s written permission and the child is in agreement.
