Science Fair is conducted for many reasons:

  • To focus attention on scientific experiences in school.
  • To stimulate interest in scientific investigation beyond routine classwork.
  • To recognize and commend youthful scientific talent and hobby pursuits.
  • To offer an opportunity for display of scientific talent through exhibit and demonstration.
  • To provide constructive suggestions for teachers and students of science.
  • To recognize teachers for outstanding science teaching.
  • To stimulate public interest in the scientific abilities of students.
Who May Enter
All students in grades K through 12 may enter a building science fair.  In order to participate in the North Dallas Elementary Regional Science and Engineering Fair, each elementary school is limited to:  Upper Elementary – one entry for grades 4 – 5, Lower Elementary – one entry for grades 1 – 3, and 3 – 5 entries for each grade 6 school.  Kindergarten may not compete beyond the Plano District Fair.
Exception: Any grand prize winning project of a district-wide fair may be entered through its school in the Regional Science and Engineering Fair, even though it was not a Grand Prize Winner in its school fair. A first place winner at the Plano District Fair may not enter the Regional Fair unless he/she is already the building grand prize winner.

All projects entered in the Regional Science and Engineering Fair must be entered by the school.
