Hughston Elementary School bears the name of Thomas Finley Hughston (1842-1935). Born in Alabama, he came to Collin County after four years in the Confederate Army. 

A farmer, Hughston also served on the Plano City Council (1908-1914), was a commissioner and deputy tax collector for Collin County, and an active Mason. 

Several of Mr. Hughston's descendants have also served on the Plano ISD School Board.
