Hello, my name is Susan Long and I am the school nurse at Isaacs. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to go over a few issues that you need to be aware of.

Please make sure to keep an updated record of your child’s immunizations. You will also need to provide one to your child’s school nurse when immunizations have been given. If you receive a notice that immunizations are due, please make sure they are given in a timely manner.

It is important for you to share pertinent health issues with your child’s teacher and nurse. Knowing about allergies, asthma and previous surgeries can be helpful information for us to help your child during school.  PLEASE DO NOT SEND MEDICATION TO SCHOOL IN BACKPACKS.  If any medication needs to be given during school hours, you will need to drop it off in my office and fill out the appropriate forms. All medications must be in the original container and labeled  with your child’s name.

Finally, please do not send your child to school when they are sick. Not only do they not feel well, they are most likely infecting their classmates and staff. Below is a list of PISD guidelines for keeping your child home. You can also find these on the PISD website along with more helpful information.

      • Fever of 100.4 or above. A child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

      • Red, draining eyes.

      • Rashes of unknown origin

      • Green or yellow drainage from nose

      • Diarrhea and/or vomiting

      • Head lice

If you are questioning whether to send your child to school, error on the side of caution and keep them home. Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for your children. If you have any question you can contact me at 469-752-3489.
