I am a native
Texan who was born in Dallas and grew up in Richardson. I
graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor's
Degree in Sociology. After graduation, I traveled the country
for seven months on a marketing tour where I met my husband
Chris. When I returned home, I returned to school and earned
my teaching certificate. I made this decision because I spent
most of my life around children. My mother ran a daycare for
30 years which formed my love for being with children. I knew
my calling was to be a teacher!
Chris and I have two children, Carter and Presley. We also share our home with
Dakota, a white German Shepherd. During my spare time, I enjoy
watching movies, traveling, and spending time
with family and friends.
I first discovered my love
of teaching by watching my mother teach at Whiteside Elementary
in Lubbock, TX. I was amazed at how her students reacted to
her and the joy they showed everyday in the classroom. I began
my teaching journey in Highland Park where I taught Preschool
at the YMCA. I became empowered by the joy I felt everyday as
I watch my students learn. I made the decision to go back to
college in 2000. I completed my Bachelor degree and received
my teaching certificate at the University of North Texas. I
was lucky enough to do my student teaching here in Plano and
was overjoyed to begin my first year of teaching at Jackson
Elementary School. As I begin another year of teaching Kindergarten,
I still can’t believe how fortunate I am to come to work
with a smile on my face and know that my students are excited
about learning. I live in Allen with my husband, Shane, our
daughter, Kayleigh, and son, Kane. My family also includes our
cats, Junior/Tiger and dog, Honey. I love spending time with
my family and friends: riding ATVs, camping and family dinners.
I am also a HUGE sports fan. I enjoy cheering on my Dallas Stars
and never miss a Cowboy game!
I
graduated from The Andes University in Bogota, Colombia, SouthAmerica
with a B.A. in Modern Languages. I am married and have two
daughters--Sydney and Samantha. I enjoy traveling with my
family to new places, sight-seeing, and getting to know the
people and their culture. I enjoy watching movies, especially
documentaries, and relaxing at home with my family. I am very
happy to be teaching 1st grade bilingual because I enjoy seeing
the academic, social, and emotional growth of the kids and
their families during the year.
I
grew up in Beaumont, Texas, the third of four children. My college
background includes Lamar University and East Texas State University.
My first teaching experience was in San Antonio, Texas. I went
on to teach in Detroit, Michigan; McKinney, Texas; and now Plano.
I also live in Plano and have a daughter, Chelsea, who graduated
from Plano Senior High School and is now a college graduate.
Her passion, like mine, is writing.
I was born
in Wylie, TX but also lived in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico
from the time I was 1 1/2 yrs. old until I was 6 yrs. old.
Both my parents are from Guadalajara, Jalisco and I absolutely
LOVE Mexico. I love the culture, history and language. Something
I always emphasize to my students is that they need to be
proud of where they and their families are from and that they
need to admire and respect other cultures because our differences
are what makes us special. When we returned to TX to live,
I started first grade at Barron Elementary but then was placed
in the 1st grade Bilingual program at Mendenhall. (I love
that I now teach 1st Grade Bilingual!) I then went to Bowman
Middle School, then Williams High School and then graduated
from Plano East Senior High.
Being bilingual has always opened up doors of opportunities
for me because I have always used both of my languages in
all of my jobs! I was previously a nursing assistant at Medical
Center of Plano, and I translated throughout the hospital
constantly. I was also a flight attendant for American Airlines
and was always the translator for the flights to Mexico. I
volunteered at church by working with third graders and taught
catechism and this is where I found my true passion: Teaching!
I went back to school and got a Bachelor's of Science (Interdisciplinary
Studies) from the University of North Texas. I love to travel
and spend time with my family and friends! I am looking forward
to another wonderful year at Jackson!
