Kindergartners come to Jackson at many different stages in their growth and development. Our teachers take pride in being sensitive to each child’s developmental level, carefully planning and providing activities that will ensure student success.

Children will be immersed in:

· Letters and sounds
· Phonological awareness (rhyming words, word parts, syllable parts)
· Writing phonetically
· Writing upper case and lower case letters
· Developing listening skills
· Reading comprehension

Math

Activities will include:

· Number concepts and counting to 100
· Patterning
· Problem solving strategies
· Graphing
· Measurement
· Beginning addition and subtraction

Building Your Child’s Desire to Read

· Let your child see you read
· Make time each day to read with your child
· Have child make predictions about story endings
· Talk about setting and main characters
· Take your child to the library
