The music curriculum
at Mathews Elementary and throughout Plano ISD is based on the principles
and methods developed by music educator and composer Zoltan Kodaly.
He believed in using excellent examples of folk and composed music to
develop performance and music literary skills in young children through
experience with singing, reading, writing, thinking, listening, and
playing games. We move from exploring our voices and bodies to finding
our head voice, matching pitch, singing in tune, and finally reading
and writing music of greater and greater complexity throughout the six
years of elementary school. Experiences with instruments and singing
games reinforce the concepts and skills we teach in class. |
Mrs. Kraman is a graduate
of Baylor University and the University of North Texas, holding Bachelor’s
and Master’s degrees in Music Education. She has completed all three
levels of Kodaly certification training through the University of North
Texas and Plano I.S.D. Before coming to Plano, Mrs. Kraman taught in elementary
schools in Garland and McKinney and also spent a number of years teaching
private saxophone lessons and children’s choirs at her church. Tammy
met her husband Mike in the Baylor marching band; he is a band director
in the Wylie school district. Their 2 children are musical as well. Michael
is a trumpet player in the Clark High School Band, and Sarah is a flute
player in the Carpenter Middle School Band and was a member of her elementary
school choir for 2 years. |
