Why should students study Latin?

Latin is the basis of all romance languages (French and Spanish are those offered in PISD) as well as a major influence on the English language (52% of all English words come from Latin). It remains the basis of medical, scientific, and legal terminology; therefore, it is recommended for the improvement of any student's vocabulary. In addition, the study of Latin literature has a long history in higher order thinking skills as well as promoting the best of human ideals.
