Why should Students be bilingual in Spanish?

Spanish is the main language of 19 countries, 290 million speakers, and is spoken primarily in Spain, Central America, South America and the United States. There are 22.4 million Hispanics in the United States. Texas now has over 4.3 million Hispanics or 25.8% of the population. Spanish is the most popular language of study in the United States, and especially in Texas. The North American Free Trade Agreement and influx of thousands of immigrants further advance the influence of Spanish in our society.
