COURSE NAME: Geometry
CREDIT: 1
PREREQUISITE: Algebra I
DESCRIPTION: Geometry is a course that uses logic, reasoning, and critical thinking skills in order to reach conclusions. Many postulates, definitions, and theorems are learned.
The course content includes the following:
Points, lines, planes and angles
Deductive reasoning
Parallel and perpendicular lines and planes
Congruent triangles
Quadrilaterals and other polygons
Inequalities
Similar polygons
Circles
Constructions and loci
Areas and perimeters of plane figures
Areas and volumes of solids
Coordinate geometry
Transformations
HOMEWORK: Homework from the textbook or on worksheets is assigned nightly.
TESTS: Tests are given approximately every 2- 2 1/2 weeks.
SPECIAL SUPPLIES: A compass, protractor, straightedge and a scientific calculator are required.
PROJECTS: Projects are assigned occasionally on such topics as geometry in real life, string art, scale drawings, etc.
NOTES: Students choosing to take geometry should realize that they will not just be "doing" problems; they will be "reasoning through" problems
