COURSE NAME: Precalculus
CREDIT: 1
PREREQUISITE: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
CONTENTS: Coordinate geometry, polynomials, inequalities, functions, exponents and logarithms, trigonometric functions, identities, trigonometric equations, triangle trigonometry, advanced graphing, trigonometric identities II, trigonometric equations II, polar coordinates and complex numbers, conic sections, vectors, sequences and series, probability
HOMEWORK: Students will have homework nightly and will have to spend the time necessary on it to be successful.
TESTS: Tests are both multiple choice and free response. Most unit tests are free response. Two or three tests are given per six weeks and count 75% of the grade for the six weeks.
MATERIALS: Graphing Calculators - average cost of $65-$85
SPECIAL NOTE: The student should be prepared to study mathematics, perhaps for the first time. (Most Pre-calculus students have usually had a fairly easy time in math and have never had to study math.) In addition to studying, they will have to think and use the background from the prerequisite courses. As a general rule, the student's average in Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II should be 80 or better.
