Purpose: This class is designed to teach each student the thinking skills that relate directly to the process of learning and analyzing history. The course is also designed to introduce each student to the major themes in American History with a special emphasis placed on the Twentieth Century.
Scope and Sequencde: Semester One
Semester Two
Students receive a calendar at the beginning of each unit of study that outlines lessons and assignments for each day. Parents can log into www.pisd.edu for assistance in contacting teachers by email. Late Work: Students will have one day for each day of an excused absence to make up work. When a student is absent from class it is the sole responsibility of the student to get his or her own make-up work. If a student is absent on an assignment due date, that assignment is due as soon as the student returns to class. Assignments or tests missed due to unexcused absences will be recorded as a zero.
Grading Policy: 75% major grades (Tests, essays, CAP activities, etc.) 25% daily grades(daily assignments, daily quizzes) Make-up Testing and Tutoring: Make-up testing and tutoring is offered with your teacher by appointment. Signs will be posted in the classrooms indicating the rooms to be used for make-up testing and tutoring. Students who have failed a test during the six weeks are offered an "Optional 6 Weeks Test" given the last Wednesday of each six weeks. This replacement grade will be no higher than a 70. 8 a.m. B1-214B Final: P.I.S.D. requires that all students take a comprehensive final exam at the end of each semester. It is worth 25% of the final semester grade. Each six weeks is weighted 25% as well.
