PTSA Board

Why Join the Plano Senior High School PTSA?
This is a frequently asked question at the Senior High level. Throughout elementary school, PTAs put on carnivals, sock hops, field day, book fairs, plus sell a variety of items to fund campus improvement projects and the teachers’ wish lists. At the Senior High, most of us think we are past that. Fundraising by the Plano Senior High School PTSA is minimal. Membership dues primarily help cover our programs, activities, services, and Plan After Prom. Plano After Prom is a drug and alcohol free event held directly after the Prom and is sponsored by the PTSA.

But we all benefit from the power of association – the organizing of persons with a common interest. Here are a few things to consider:

Parents join a PTSA to understand how to navigate within the school system and to establish a partnership with the teachers their children have. Parents join to have representation in education issues at the local, state and national levels of government. They can benefit from the programs that deal with issues particular to high school students - colleges, options besides college, standardized tests, and building and maintaining relationships in the family as well as outside the family.

Teachers join to have another voice in government issues regarding education and to show support of their own campus parent group.

Students join to increase a sense of citizenship on their campus and voice their opinions. It also looks impressive on a resume and offers the students a chance at college scholarships.

How Do I Join?
