Debate is a competition speech class which teaches skills for argumentation, research, critical thinking and current events. Students participate and learn about extemporaneous speaking, debate and congressional debate. Debate trains youth for leadership in business, government, law, education and many other professions. Students may become members of National Forensic League which not only gives them a step up when applying to college but prepares them to be engaged and effective global citizens. Honors credit is available for Debate 3 & 4.

Oral Interpretation

This course engages the student in analyzing prose, poetry, and drama, discovering the meaning in literature and the communication of that meaning to an audience. Emphasis is on expression, interpretation, and delivery skills. This course also develops nonverbal expressiveness, critical thinking, listening skills, and teaches them to relate to an audience. Students may become members of National Forensic League which not only gives them a step up when applying to college but prepares them to be engaged and effective global citizens. Honors credit is available for Oral Interpretation 3 & 4.

Nancy Lewis

This course is intended to provide students with the opportunity to build and refine understanding of media, primarily through the perspective of television. This chance to increase knowledge will be experienced through a survey of relevant television genre, study of pertinent issues and activities designed to stimulate higher-level thinking and communication skills.

This is a state mandated course needed for graduation. The goal is for students to learn effective interpersonal skills, verbal and non-verbal messages, presentation skills, and interview skills in order to be successful in the workplace. This course can be taken during summer school, online or you can test out of it so you can fit in Debate or Oral interpretation.
