Cheerleading

This club is for 8th graders interested in learning cheerleading skills. Cheerleaders cheer at sporting events, pep rallies, and support other school activities.

Flag Duty

Flag Duty is available to 6th graders who would like to participate in raising and lowering the flag and in leading the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the school day.

Geography Club

MATHCOUNTS

MATHCOUNTS competes in local math competitions and is open to all grades. Solving math problems and working with other students are emphasized.

National Junior Honor Society

To be eligible for NJHS membership, the candidate must be a current 7th or 8th grader at Rice who has been enrolled for the equivalent of one semester. Selection is by a faculty council majority vote and is based on outstanding scholarship, citizenship, character, leadership, and service.

Ravens of Lore

This speech and drama club is open to all grades. Students compete in tournaments in a variety of interpretive and forensic events including duet acting, readers theater, poetry, prose, original oratory and debate. It is not necessary to register for a speech or debate class in order to participate in Ravens of Lore. Competitions are held on Saturdays and the group meets on scheduled weekdays.

Science Fair

The goal of science fair is to provide students the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of the scientific inquiry process and problem solving. Competition is held in February.

Spelling Bee

Students prepare for the competition held in January. The winner of the Rice spelling bee goes on to compete at the district level.

Student Council

Student Council members provide service to our student body, parents, and the community outside of our school. All grade levels are encouraged to participate with the level of responsibility and job demands increasing with each grade level.

Whiz Quiz

Whiz Quiz is an academic competition in a game show format. It is open to all middle schoolers. We compete against other PISD schools in February and March.
