MATHCOUNTS competes in local math competitions and is open to
all grades. Solving math problems and working with other students
are emphasized.

To be eligible for NJHS membership, the candidate must be a
current 7th or 8th grader at Rice who has been enrolled for
the equivalent of one semester. Selection is by a faculty council
majority vote and is based on outstanding scholarship, citizenship,
character, leadership, and service.
Ravens
of Lore

This speech and drama club is open to all grades. Students compete
in tournaments in a variety of interpretive and forensic events
including duet acting, readers theater, poetry, prose, original
oratory and debate. It is not necessary to register for a speech
or debate class in order to participate in Ravens of Lore. Competitions
are held on Saturdays and the group meets on scheduled weekdays.

The goal of science fair is to provide students the opportunity
to showcase their knowledge of the scientific inquiry process
and problem solving. Competition is held in February.
Spelling

Students prepare for the competition held in January. The winner
of the Rice spelling bee goes on to compete at the district
level.

levels are encouraged to participate with the level of responsibility

It is open to all middle schoolers. We compete against other
