| Dr.
Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts,
on March 2, 1904. He wrote his first children's book, And to Think
That I Saw it on Mulberry Street, in 1936. The Cat
in The Hat is his most famous children's book. |

story has 220 words and was written to help 1st graders learn to read.
Dr. Seuss died on Spetember 24, 1991 at the age of 87. The last book
he wrote before his death was Oh, the Places You'll Go. |

Across America Day, a campaign started to promote and encourage
reading by the National Eduaction Association, is celebrated each
year on Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Saigling's
Kindergarten helped Dr. Suess celebrate his 100th birthday and Read
Across America Day. They read aloud many Dr. Seuss stories, learned
about his life and career, and hosted a special Cat in the Hat
Hat Parade. Kindergarten students ended the day by making Top
Hat cookies and singing "Happy Birthday."
