The
Texas Department of Agriculture has informed us that students will
only be allowed one nutritious snack per day. This snack must be
under teacher supervision and may not be served
at the same time as the regular meal period for that class. To see
the complete ruling of the Texas Department of Agriculture please
go to http://www.agr.state.tx.us
and click on "Food and Nutrition." |
If
you wish to share a birthday treat please consider a snack from
the "healthy snack list" provided by the Texas Department
of Agriculture at
www.squaremeals.org. Even with healthy snacks, we must be extremely
careful. We have some students with severe food allergies. Another
conflict is that students can now only have one snack a day. If
you feel strongly that you must send something, please coordinate
this in advance with your classroom teacher. The teacher can then
inform you of any allergies or medical conditions that would limit
a certain healthy snack.

The
Texas Department of Agriculture has recognized that celebrating
student birthdays with a baked treat at school is a time-honored
tradition. Therefore, they are now going to allow food otherwise
restricted by the FMNV policy (Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value)
to be permitted for student birthdays. |
| Parents
may now send in treats like cupcakes, cookies, brownies or rice crispie
treats for their child's birthday. These need to be cut and individually
wrapped so that they may be passed out easily by the classroom teacher.
Please drop these off at the front office with the student's and teacher's
name and we will see they are delivered to your child's classroom.
The teacher will pass them out to the class before the end of the
day. Please remember these should be individual treats; no sheet cakes,
cookie cakes, etc. Also, no favors such as balloons or birthday invitations
are allowed at school. |
