Jim Bob Segars Memorial Award

Awarded to an 8th grade student who exhibits outstanding citizenship.

Mr. James Segars was a friend and teaching peer in Plano Independent School District for several years. We shared a bond as teachers and armed force veterans. He touched the lives of and inspired students, teachers, our community and fellow military peers. Mr. Segars finished his contribution to his beloved country and community by the ultimate sacrifice. During winter break of 1992, he was flying a training mission from Navy Dallas when his F-14 Tomcat fighter airplane crashed, killing him. Mr. Segars was an honorable patriot citizen, a caring father and husband, a children’s teacher and positive example in the community. Mr. Segars cared passionately for his country, community and his fellow man. In death as in life he still represents a spirit and role model that exemplify the pride of Plano, Texas, and Plano Independent School District. --Dr. Martin Brown, Schimelpfenig Teacher
