Mother - Daughter Program
SPONSOR ROLE
A member of the faculty or staff on each campus plays a vital role in leading
the KEYSS program for each participating school. They serve in a three-pronged
role as mentors, facilitators, and sponsors.
As mentors they:
- support the student participants with academic or personal needs they may
have
- make appropriate referrals to campus and PISD services and programs, like
Youth Mentor Network or Communities in Schools
As facilitators
they:
- meet with girls in the program on a monthly basis.
- track attendance
- evaluate academic progress
- monitor and address disciplinary referrals
- encourage extra-curricular activities and school involvement
- facilitate referrals to appropriate academic support
As program sponsors
they:
- coordinate bi-weekly campus meetings to include topics related to time management,
communication, study skills, responsibility, career exploration, personal development,
and the importance of higher education
- with the other campus sponsors, help coordinate Saturday conferences for the
mothers and daughters
- encourage and facilitate community service opportunities
