School-Based Improvement Committee Stinson Elementary School January 31, 2008 Minutes of Meeting 3:30-5:00 p.m. Welcome and Introductions Barbara Salamone
Mrs. Salamone welcomed the community members and faculty to the second SBIC meeting of the school year. Members introduced themselves once again. Ice Breaker Barbara Salamone
Mrs. Salamone asked the participants to pick their favorite ice cream flavor from the following: vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, banana, strawberry and chocolate chip. She then shared with the group the qualities that research shows a person has based on their favorite flavor of ice cream. Highly Qualified Teacher Continuous Improvement Plan 2007-2008 Maureen Yervasi Mrs. Yervasi explained that as a result of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation, all teachers must be highly qualified. To be highly qualified a teacher must have at least a Bachelor’s degree, have full state certification, and demonstrate competency in core academic subject areas assigned. The goal of PISD is to meet this requirement by the end of this school year. In order to ensure that PISD continues to hire only highly qualified teachers, a plan was developed that would assist district and school administrators in meeting this goal. The entire plan was reviewed with the members of the committee. Several questions were addressed by Mrs. Salamone and Mrs. Yervasi.
AEIS Report Barbara Salamone The 2006-2007 Stinson AEIS Report, the Texas State Report Card, was highlighted by Mrs. Salamone. Stinson’s rating is Exemplary and the following are Gold Performance Acknowledgments:
