Sonia Collins

Hello, my name is Sonia Collins. I’m excited to be a PISD School Counselor.  Often times the titles School Counselor and Guidance Counselor are used synonymously. Although school counselors do conduct guidance lessons with students, it’s only a part of the services we provide. So feel free to refer to me like the kids do – The Counselor. Being at Wells Elementary is such a pleasure for me. The students, parents and PTA are wonderful. Our school provides challenging opportunities in a nurturing community that allows children to reach their potential. Being a relatively small, but growing, school allows more focus on the needs of the kids as well as the families.

My educational philosophy promotes a holistic approach. Children are not one dimensional and neither can education be one dimensional. This is one of the reasons PISD is such an ideal place to work. A PISD education addresses a child’s academic, social/emotional as well as career needs.

I’m not a Texas undergrad. I’m a Louisiana Tech Bulldawg and proud of it! When I’m not at work, I enjoy doing arts and crafts, going to the movies, shopping, sleeping, and dining out. Mexican is my favorite, next is seafood. But, like I tell the kids, if you put cheese on it, I’ll eat it. Maybe my next career will be in the restaurant industry as a traveling food connoisseur. And shortly after that, my next career would need to be in health and nutrition, focusing on weight loss and management. I just can’t help thinking like a counselor – do what you enjoy and are good at, but always know that you can change the plan as needed.
