The Williams Step Team is a group of young men and women who come together to work on “Stepping.”  “Stepping” is a traditional dance that has been around in colleges for years.  “Stepping" is a historical form of communication and storytelling that is widely performed by fraternities and sororities.  In the past, “Step” has served as a sort of code for African Americans to tell their story since speaking out was often times too dangerous. Since then it has grown and evolved. Today, fraternities, sororities and high school step team's perform step as a means of sending a message to the audience or just simply for entertainment. The step routines rely on improvisation, call and response, complex meters, and rhythm.
