Reading I

Prerequisite: District qualifying criteria or teacher recommendation

Reading I (first year) involves practicing literacy strategies for students to build academic success and become proficient in the areas of word analysis,
vocabulary, reading fluency, written response, and critical thinking, therefore, preparing students for college readiness and/or post-secondary success. TAKS objectives and practice will be addressed as well as developing the student's desire to read.

Students who fail to meet the state standard on Reading/ELA TAKS are required to take this course.

Reading II
9 - 12
Prerequisite: Reading I and District qualifying criteria or teacher recommendation

Reading II (second year) focuses on helping students grow into critical readers and develop different levels of literacy and inquiry for college readiness. TAKS objectives and practice will be addressed as well as developing the student's desire to read.

Students who fail to meet the state standard on Reading/ELA TAKS are required to take this course.
