Science Students

Students from Williams performed very well indeed at the recent District Science Fair. Their results in the respective categories were:- 1st Place - Alex Wang; 2nd Place - Ian Chan, Brandon Howle, Hannah Stringfellow, Hayley Jones; 3rd Place - Lila Bailey, Kelsey Higbee, David Nixon, HM Individual - Shelby Mattson, Noor Qureshi, Williams Smith, Taylor Meyers, Benjamin Higgens, Parker Maginley; Honorable Mention Team - Madeline Jackson, Rachel Balke, Yuan Tao, and Menghan Lui.

Also the following students were selected to attend a one month paid Science Research Program at UTD: Parker Maginley, Menghan Lui,and Yuan Tao.

Course Descriptions

Integrated Physics & Chemistry
This course integrates the disciplines of physics and chemistry in topics such as the following: motion, waves, energy, transformations, properties of matter, changes in matter, and solution chemistry. The use of technology and laboratory investigation will be primary focus in instruction. Student investigation will emphasize accurate observations, collection of data, data analysis, and the safe manipulation of laboratory apparatus, and materials in the laboratory.

Chemistry
This course of study emphasizes the investigation of matter and its interactions and the factors affecting the interactions. The major units are water, materials, petroleum, foods, nuclear, air, and industry.

Biology
This course of study emphasizes the investigation of life processes and their interaction with the environment. The students will study cell parts and processes such as homeostasis and energy through photosynthesis and respiration, DNA, genetics, and the high demand field of biotechnology. They will also study evolution, ecology/ecosystems and body systems. Much of the student investigation will be done through laboratory exploration.

Medical Science
Medical Science allows students to explore the world of health care professions and identify personal interests and aptitudes in that field. This program provides unique opportunities for students to gain pertinent skills that will enhance personal health as well as the pursuit of a health career. A variety of certifications are also available through different course offerings.
