Meet the Wyatt Library Staff

Debbie Schmittou is the librarian for Wyatt Elementary School. Mrs. Schmittou grew up in Tennessee and holds a BS in Education from Austin Peay State University and an MLS from Texas Woman's University. She has been a librarian for six years and previously taught Kindergarten and Second grade in Plano. Her family includes her husband Johnny, two grown sons, Jonathan and Jordan, and a Yorkie named Chloe. Mrs. Schmittou loves reading, football, movies, and is a big Wildcat and Cowboy fan!
Geri White is the library assistant for Wyatt. She has worked for PISD six years, all at Wyatt. She was born in Ohio but grew up in Florida. Geri and her husband Maurice have two grown children, Jeremy and Michelle. Mrs. White enjoys yoga, reading, and visiting national parks with her family.

Information About Our Library

Each class visits the library weekly for checkout and alternating weeks for library skills lessons with checkout. Our library lessons support the classroom curriculum, which is based on the state TEKS standards. Children are introduced to award winning books in all genres. In addition, we offer our students popular magazines, book/tape sets, and Playaways.
Items are checked out for one week but may be renewed once, with the exception of Playaways. Kindergarteners and 1st graders check out one book per week, 2nd graders two, and 3rd-5th may check out three. If a student has an item two or more weeks overdue, that item must be returned before checking out new materials
Occasionally, books are lost or damaged. We ask that children look for lost books at home and in the classroom before paying for the book. Books are considered lost after 30 days. At that point, we will send a notice with your child with the cost of the book. Money paid for a lost book will be gladly refunded if the book is returned during the current school year.

Wyatt Parenting Library

Our library has a special resource section for Wyatt parents. We offer many book titles, audio tapes, and video tapes for your use. Please come and browse this wonderful resource, provided by Wyatt PTA.

Library Volunteers

We value our wonderful library volunteers at Wyatt. Our volunteers work weekly, on alternating weeks, or as a substitute. If you are interested in helping in the library, please let Debbie, Geri, or Hedda Meridew, our Library Volunteer Coordinator know. We appreciate the valuable time that our volunteers give to the library!
