ISD 2003-06 Technology Plan Process
For this most current revision, the steering committee involved 118 staff members directly through hours of focus group discussions as well as follow-up input on a variety of the plan content documents. Each of three clusters (East, Central and West) had their individual focus group composed of teachers from each campus. In addition, central support departments had representatives meet for a fourth focus group to cover uses of technology beyond instructional. The focus groups discussed the following three questions and had the opportunity to share their single greatest enthusiasm for technology use within PISD as well as their single greatest concern.
The recorded notes of the focus group discussions are available for your review. Our focus for these discussions has been less about "gadgets" and more about the concepts and tasks surrounding our daily activities. Identifying these needs will allow our future technology initiatives to have a greater overall impact on district improvement goals.
The update of the technology plan has been an inclusive process for all district stakeholders beginning this past fall. The Dallas Morning News featured the process in an editorial to help elicit public input. The technology planning process has been the featured item at the October Town Hall Meeting, the Council of PTAs meeting, the Presidents' Council, Multi-ethnic Committee, and Key Communicators meeting. Input is being received from each of these audiences by their responses to a series of questions geared toward parents. Results from the first online parent survey session are available for review.
In addition to this, students were invited to share their thoughts on related questions at each campus and through the Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee.
